All Gone

Two weeks ago, I was flying to Maryland on a business trip out of Cleveland Hopkins airport.  While I was knitting, I shuffled through my laptop case, looking for my iPod, and took my knitting notions bag out in order to get a better view.  That was the last time I saw my notions bag.  In it, two row counters (red and pink), a Nancy's Knit Knacks gauge, my orange chibi (with the fantastic needle I use to kitchner the toes of socks), my prized pink chibi (bought it off of ebay as they don't make them any more), a set of 5" US 3 double points, a set of US 1 metal double points, a set of US 6 double points, and my collapsable scissors.  I stopped by Lost and Found when I returned to Cleveland Friday night, but they hadn't seen anything and told me to stop by again, as it sometimes takes a while for things to get from the gates to Lost and Found, so all hope is not lost.  But I feel completely at a loss without all my "stuff".

When in Maryland, I did get the chance to stop by Woolwinders to attempt to replenish some of the lost items.  I really only needed the tapestry needles/chibi, and wouldn't ya know?  They were all out.  I want to send a giant shout out (are we on the radio?!?) to Jackie, LYS owner extraordinnaire, who said "Don't worry, I own plenty.  Take one of mine."  She proceeded to hand me over a blue chibi from her own personal stash.  What a fantastic thing to do for me!  I cannot say thank you enough!

I have since replenished some of the double points and the orange chibi.  Row counters will come when I'm in need.  I have to get the gauge soon, as I'm not sure the difference between my US 1's and my US 1.5's.  Thank goodness I had taken out my brand new Addi US 2's (two pair) that I bought the week before!

No- More-Humdrum-Mittens Swap Questionnaire

I have answered quite a few of these questionnaires over the years, but here goes again :)

How long have you been knitting & how did you learn?

I've been knitting for about 8, almost 9, years now.  I was taught at a class at Joann Fabrics, but didn't really get hooked until around 2004.

Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I think at this point, I might start to call myself advanced.  Though... there is still a lot I don't know.

What are your favorite colors? Any you dislike?

For mittens, I like something practical, but not black and white or black and red.  Something that goes against the norm, but still looks classy.  No rainbow mitts for me please :)

Do you like Latvian type patterns? If so, what are your favorite patterns?

I do, but couldn't tell you a favorite pattern.  I do like the Nordic mittens from Interweave Winter 2006 (I think).

Do you desire mittens for yourself, your "special someone else" or your child?

For myself

What is the measurement from your wrist to the tip of your longest finger?

It measures about 8 inches.

What is the circumference of your hand at it's widest point?

9 inches

What other things do you enjoy knitting?

I enjoy knitting socks and scarves

What sort of needles do you enjoy working with? (straights vs circs, bamboo vs aluminum)

I enjoy working with circular needles over straights any day.  I've used both bamboo and aluminum, and I believe I prefer the aluminum.

What’s one project you’ve not yet tried but are dying to make?

Can't think of anything I haven't knit that I'm dying to make.  I'd like to make a sweater for myself.  I guess I'd really like to make a pair of gloves for myself.

What’s one yarn you’ve not yet tried but are dying to work with?

Handmaiden Sea Silk

What other hobbies do you have? Do you spin? Sew? Garden? Cook?

I spin occassionally.  I've really taken a liking to sewing lately.  Other than that... not too much besides knitting in the way of hobbies

Besides yarn, do you collect anything?

Nope.   Unless dog toys count.  I'm apparently collecting them since I got a new puppy!

What kind of goodies do you enjoy? Sweets? Salty? Anything you hate or are allergic to?

I like coffees and teas.

Do you have any kids? Pets?

I have a cat and 4 month old Maltese.  The dog is hypoallergenic, but the cat is not.

What is your favorite part of Winter?

The look of snow

What is your least favorite part of Winter?

Shoveling snow.
